The annual bloom of cherry blossoms at downtown Portland’s Waterfront Park is impressive, but an even more colorful burst of flowers appears every spring just 32 miles (51 km) south of the city, in Woodburn, Oregon, where the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival blossoms, drawing thousands to come and see 40 garden acres (16 ha) of tulips on this charming farm, rain or shine.

Tulip bulbs are classified as early to mid-season flowers. This means that in the Portland area, the bloom season on local farms runs from March through May. Likewise, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival runs from mid-March to early May, with the most flowers in full bloom around mid-April. Blooms only last for about two weeks, so don’t wait too long to frolic in these garden fields!

How much does it cost to get into the Tulip Festival?

Individual day passes and season passes must be purchased online. Admission cost includes parking, walking access through tulip fields on the farm, children’s play area, shuttle to and from fields, and access to Wooden Shoe Gardens. As of 2025, prices are as follows:

Adult (13–64 years): $16 weekday, $21 weekend
Senior (65+): $11 weekday, $16 weekend
Season Pass: $75 per person, including fees
Children 12 and younger are free with a ticketed adult.

Can I bring my dog to the Tulip Festival?

Friendly dogs are allowed on a leash, and the farm asks that you clean up after your pet. Be aware that many people choose to bring their furred friends, so please be considerate and ensure that your pet likes to be around others.

Is food sold at the festival?

Food options vary daily. Most vendors take debit or credit cards, but if cash is needed, there is an ATM on-site. Local beer and Wooden Shoe Vineyards wine are sold in the tasting room. Families are also welcome to bring their own food, with picnic tables available for use.

How far is Woodburn from Portland?

Woodburn, Oregon, is just under an hour’s drive south of Portland. It’s right in the heart of Oregon’s wine country, and will make for a scenic drive — with plenty of stops along the way at wineries and tasting rooms.

Beyond beautiful tulips, enjoy a gift shop, café, and family-friendly fun at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. The kids’ area includes activities like rubber duck races, horse swings, a hay bale tent, and cow wagons to cart your little ones around through the fields. Also available for entertaining the young ones are a bounce house and carnival rides (which are weather-dependent and not included with admission).

In addition to fresh-cut flowers and potted tulips, gardeners can order tulip bulbs for fall planting, and even the most amateur photographers can capture incredible photos – you just can’t go wrong when you get 40 acres (16 ha) of tulips, a windmill and Mount Hood in the frame.

Make it a Day

If you have time, make it a day trip and visit the sites of the stunning Willamette Valley. For some nearby nature, head to Silver Falls State Park or The Oregon Garden.

The nearby Powerland Heritage Park offers an open-air exhibition of the history of cars, motors and engines, plus trolley and small train rides. Pose for pics at the 45th Parallel Sign, marking the halfway point between the equator and the North Pole.

For a taste of history, swing by the Aurora National Historic District, which features antique shops, an architectural salvage shop and quaint cafés, and visit the Historic Gallon House Covered Bridge, one of the oldest covered bridges in the state.
